Description

The data compiled about recycling activities are from the BC Solid Waste (local governments programs); municipalities & private sector data (commercial, industrial, private owned transfer station) are not included for lack of reliable data. The recycling rate is calculated by dividing the total waste tons processed through BCSW and the total tons recycled. The recycled items included are scrap tires, yardwaste, whitegoods and scrap metal, residential/commercial cardboard, concrete/brick; mixed paper, plastic, glass, aluminum cans, TV’s, electronics and household hazardous waste.

Description

Greenhouse gas emissions from the active landfill are calculated annually using EPA's greenhouse gas emissions tool. Utilizing the landfill "gas to energy system" reduces greenhouse gas emissions.  The reported values reflect the amount of CO2 equivalent emissions.
